What is the OTPF?

The OTPF is the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. It is a compilation of occupational therapy lingo used to establish a common language between occupational therapists, as well as guide the OT process. It describes different constructs used within the profession, going into detail about the terms occupational therapists will encounter on a daily basis, such as client factors, occupational performance, etc. It is organized into two major sections: domain and process. The way it is organized helps to separate out information into descriptive information about the client and environment, and into information about the OT process. The OT process includes evaluation, intervention, and outcomes. Through the use of the OTPF, occupational therapists can have a common language when describing the practice as well as a better understanding of the terms often used by OTs. The OTPF also describes the goals of the practice as a whole.
