Continuing Education

I find it fascinating that there is so much you can do with occupational therapy. Even after obtaining your certification and license, you can continue on throughout your career to learn more within the profession. Getting specialty and board certifications expand one's knowledge and training, opening one up to new employment opportunities and means of assistance for client's. When scrolling through the OT Potential website looking at some of these certifications, one in particular peaked my interest. During my time shadowing a couple of OTs before entering OT school, I observed an OT who was specialized in hand therapy. I always enjoyed watching her interact with clients, as well as seeing how she cared for the patients individually. Because of her, I have become interested in hand therapy. The hands are very complex, and a hand therapy certification takes many hours to complete. Many people have to be quite sure this is something they want to pursue before pursuing it, since the demand is larger than other certifications. I am definitely interested in this certification a this point, and my interest was sparked when reading about it on the OT Potential website. I am not quite sure what I will ultimately want to pursue after my Master's degree has been obtained, but one thing I am sure of is that I will want to continuously expand my knowledge. One of the best aspects of occupational therapy is that there are various areas that can be pursued, the possibilities are endless!
