Over the course of a year, my views on leadership changed. When looking at my drawings side by side, I noticed a lot of the aspects of the face I drew were the same. However, a few things were drawn differently this time around. The first change I notice was that I drew my eyes small this time rather than large. The small eyes represent the belief that there is a mixture of leaders and non-leaders in the OT field. I think that when I was drawing my first face a year ago, I viewed the term "non-leaders" negatively. This does not mean that these people do not have individual skills to offer, but I think that in general there is a mixture of leaders and non-leaders in every field. I also added glasses in this drawing, representing my belief that I have had quite a bit of leadership opportunities and roles at this point in my life. The only other thing I changed about my drawing was the way I signed my signature at the bottom. Rather than writing my name in cursive, I wrote it out in print. Cursive represents having a written goal about serving in leadership goals in the future. While I have ideas, I have not made a definitive plan for myself. I think that the differences between my drawings show that my views on leadership have grown and changed in the past year. I would like to believe that I now have a better understanding of what it is like to be a leader, and I continue learning more about this each day. One thing I noticed was that I consistently put that I believed leadership can come from anywhere, and that it stems from nurture over nature. While yes, many people may be natural born leaders, leadership presents itself in various ways. Anyone can be a leader and has unique skills to bring to the table. This was a very eye opening experience for me, as I now have a better understanding of what leadership actually looks like in the field of occupational therapy.
